Why should you care which is the best digital luggage scale? You may not even know the purpose of a luggage scale, I never did until recently. Conversely, you might not ever need it, but NOT having one in a pinch can literally cost you. Say you are leaving Italy, and you decide to smuggle 50LBs of olive oil back in your bag (gives wife the side eye..). Everything seems to be going fine, until American Airlines weighs your bag and charges you an extra $200s due to overweight fees. Had you had used a digital luggage scale this problem never would have arisen.

A digital luggage scale is useful to avoid airline headaches while traveling…

All a digital luggage scale does is weigh your bag to help you avoid overweight fees. This small luxury allows you to pack more efficiently and not worry about any extra costs that the scumbag airlines like to throw at you.

I have used a couple of these, and I found the best digital luggage scale to be the AYTECH Luggage Scale. For a small price you can get accurate results and avoid some headaches.

I will measure this on 3 criteria: accuracy, cost, and durability.

Testing the
AYTECH Digital Luggage Scale for Accuracy

If I am touting this product as the best digital luggage scale, I should probably test its weight accuracy. First, I used it on my empty bag. Realizing I had no idea if the number was accurate, I did some searching on the web. It turns out my bag is supposed to weigh around 6.85 pounds, this is just about what the AYTECH Luggage Scale said (6.88LBs).

Secondly, I tied it to a 35 pound weight, not its intended use, but it is a test. This was slightly less accurate, at 34 LBs, but I blame this on the way the weight balanced, still pretty close. Keep in mind I was not properly following directions, so I took those initial results with a grain of salt.

Lastly, I put the weight in a suitcase and weighed it. 6.8 pounds suitcase combined with a 35LB (this time I used it exactly how the directions stated I should) and I got 42 LBs; close enough to convince me of its precision. The AYTECH Luggage Scale gets a 9 out of 10 for accuracy. I guess it could have gotten that .9 LB, but I blame user error more than anything.

Another handy feature is that it can convert your measurements depending on what country you are visiting. This is helpful, if you are using it abroad.

Cost of the Digital Luggage Scale

I spent $14 for this luggage scale. Really, I have paid more for a bad bloody Mary at the airport, whose only use was to piss me off and give me a headache. Considering the cost of an overweight bag is at least $100, and this is a one-time purchase of $14, it was worth the investment. Since this is one of the best digital luggage scales out there and it cost (almost) less than the batteries used to charge it, I am ranking the cost high: 10 out of 10.

Design

Although I like the color and the look of this device, the plastic has a flimsy feel, which is my only complaint about this product and minor considering its purpose. It didn’t break, and it isn’t like I am throwing it out the window, but this is something to keep in mind if you like to show off your digital luggage scale. I hear shiny things are big with millennials…

The battery is one of those weird round watch batteries, of which I never seem to have in the house. The good thing is this digital luggage scale comes with a battery, making the price even better. They say the battery lasts a year, so that gives me time to stock up, of course I won’t..but I have time..

Overall, I wasn’t crazy about the feel of it, the device looks fine enough so I wouldn’t let that stop you from buying it. If I am ranking, maybe 7 out of 10.

IS AYTECH Luggage Scale The Best Digital Luggage scale?

Is this the best digital luggage scale out there? Who knows…I only used a couple so I can only say that it is the best digital luggage scale I have used. It was the most highly rated scale so others seem to agree. Would I recommend this digital luggage scale? Obviously, I did link to it after all. I am not going to recommend something I wouldn’t use myself.

People seem to like it given the reviews (click here to read the reviews).

Really, there aren’t many criteria for buying a digital luggage scale. 1) does it work…which the AYTECH Luggage Scale does. 2) is the price right, and as I mentioned since it is only $13 (with batteries included) it isn’t much of an investment if you are worried this review is fake (I’ts not).

This is an insurance purchase/ a just in case, since there is so little monetary risk. You may forget you have it until that two-week trip to Europe in which you packed your whole closet.

It would also be handy if you like to buy fifty pounds of magnets on vacation. Either way it is a nice device to own.
